I can't remember
how many days
I've wandered in fear.
I even asked my elusive timid God
What am I still
doing here?
I carry this blanket
because it's the only thing
I now own
since losing my family
and the roots
I call home.
Then I stumble to my knees
with a rifle
at my head.
Go ahead,
please shoot me
and end this life of dread.
In a war ravaged country
our freedom
was taken away
with no hope
of seeing
a better day.
I am blinded by tears
as I lay face first
in the ground.
Someone loads a bullet
to make
the final sound.
So I lay down my burden
of a heart
they once tore
and wrapped in this blanket
an innocent baby
is no more.
