Love's sweet liberty

Picture
Benny and Maggie

are like two peas

in a pod.

Some close minded people

may find it

quite odd.

Although Benny and Maggie

are special

and it would be lovely to see

if they can

live together

and always be free.

When Benny

met Maggie

they went to the same school.

Be sure not to judge them.

They're nobody's

fool.

Both families

had a meeting

where others might condone

if Benny and Maggie

could live

on their own.

So after years

of parental supervision

it was time to say goodbye.

Benny comforted Maggie

who began

to cry.

"We're just like everyone else

now"

said Benny with a grin

"and yes, sometimes,

the underdogs

have a chance to win."

It was love's sweet liberty

which pointed

the way

to the final destination

of their

independence day.

Benny and Maggie

are special

and it's lovely to see

that even

with down syndrome

long may they be free!

The Beatles: "And I Love Her"

Although Lennon and McCartney shared songwriting credits - during the time of the Beatles it was fairly easy to see who wrote what tune. When I wouldn't be surprised , Maria, that Paul wrote this tune thinking of you. And thank you for your visit and as I always say - everyone in this world has feelings and everyone deserves love, independence and freedom

There was a sweet movie made years ago about this subject (I have no idea the name of it). It was so endearing. People with Downs are so loving and giving. They don't judge or criticize or have high expectations. They simply love with all their being.

Beautiful poem, Epi!

Good morning Shauna and I am sitting here drinking my strong Italian coffee after my sleep and I just fed my cats. Yes as I just said to Maria - everyone in this world deserves love and has feelings and myself, just by my nature, well I always look out for the underdog(s) in life. I send you blessings and good thoughts in having a good day and a happy week ahead of you and sending you good energy for your writing assignments too

Epi - this is such a thoughtful and lovely story. We all want the underdogs to win, don't we? I love the strength and humour Benny showed as he comforted Maggie. So sweet.

....yes and what is really sweet is seeing your cherished name here Vicki ....I am just about to head out for a nice walk along my mountain brow as the day is much more inviting than it was yesterday and we may as well get on with it now because summer is short enough here in most parts of Canada - thank you for your editorial comments and for making my day with your arrival although I was hoping you would have brought some freshly baked scones with you , lol lol lol

When i was in nurses training we spent the day in a classroom with DS children. They were the most loving and caring individuals, so sweet. I love this piece Epi. Thank you.

Yes dear Ruby that was such a nice story about your special day and in my own small humble way I was trying to convey a similar feel good story as well. Sending good thoughts your way with a song by George Jones ...

Yes I always root for the underdog myself too because often I feel like an underdog myself - it is so nice to have you drop by and as I always do - thank you for giving me this dream - and also thanks to Vicki and Mike for all of their help - including yours, Angelia. Big hugs from Colin and the cats Tiffy and Gabe man

lol, yes how true Martie, just like you and the incredibly handsome Mister B - I hope you saw my comment to you at the Hub from last week and I really meant that when I said it was one of the best birthday surprises I've ever had in my 56 years when I heard your voice again Martie - although between you and me I am 19 when I hang out with you lol lol lol
