dejected
on the forgotten shelf
covered in dust and contemplating
its deteriorating
mental health.
The almanac that is now
dated
from several years ago
languishes
in self pity
on the bottom row.
All of the other reference books
feel exactly
the same way.
They are lost artifacts in time
from a memory
called yesterday.
So if you listen very closely
you can hear each hardcover
cry
because online Google searches
make old fashioned methods
want to die.
The dictionary's pages are yellow with teardrops
and stick together
in a bind.
The entire library is held in purgatory
where curiosity
shall never find
a future audience of avid readers
seeking a word
with every breath
as the current state of technology
has certified
its imminent death.
Travel plans are in the offfering
and each book will be shipped
away
inside a box of discarded donations
sometime
on a rainy day.
