Breathe life into me once more

Picture
I sit here cramped

in this cage

and wondering what's next.

The words are on the wall

but I can't read

the text.

I notice a door

down this corridor

with a tease of fresh air.

I just wonder if my people

are waiting

out there.

Other dogs are now

barking.

What could that be?

Perhaps this is my moment,

once again,

to be free.

You see I am the quiet kind

although

I have cried

as the tears that fall

are kept

deep down inside.

So I think of the sun

and the birds

in the sky

and yes

my favorite fire hydrant

in which I never deny.

I have no sense of time

and yet

I anticipate

to run back into the loving arms

of those

who wait.

The bad news

I'm not hearing

would be a crushing blow

as my family died

in a car accident
