Beyond the silent stars (she is smiling)

Picture
It's been three days nowsince you and I

have come home from the hospital.

I need to sleep in your room

as I don't know what else to do

and I cannot let you out of my sight.

Yes, my darling son,

I feel so close to you

during this precious time

of our new acquaintance.

For I am a father at last

and an older one as well.

Sadie and I were married for 15 years

before you finally came along.

You were such a beautiful surprise

and a miracle baby indeed

although when I look into your eyes

I shall always think of her.

Please bear with me if I seem distracted

but I have mixed emotions

that will probably never go away.

One day when you are older

I can explain.

Right now we have to stick together

and bond as a team.

You see, your dear mother didn't make it

when you were brought into our world.

She is no doubt looking down upon us

from somewhere up beyond the stars

and smiling

and embracing both of us

until the end of time

as one happy family."

So sad, Epi. Fortunately, women dying while giving birth is no longer as common as it once was. Dad has a big job ahead of him, being Mom and Dad both, but he'll get through it. He has a wonderful baby boy to devote his life to.

Epi - such a sad life event, fortunately less often in most places, but always a mini-tragedy. I am always struck by your ability to capture the events like this, and the emotional impact of them.

Yes it's true , Miss Vicki of Baking Heaven, I really know how to pull at the heartstrings in a poetic fashion, lol, and poetically speaking , my mouth always waters when I arrive at your website and gaze upon all of those recipes that you are so famous for. Greetings to you from the three of us and thank you for your time today here with me

I am jumping ahead many years but surely this song will fit at some point, Sir Colin...this tugs at the heart strings of the human jukebox:

Cat Stevens: "Father and Son"

Beautiful Epi. This does happen today on rare occasions. I feel for the father and baby, growing up without a mother must be the worst, but a father's love is just as important. Still miss you on HP..

Ruby , we could be sitting in the same room together listening to George Jones and I would still miss you. You have been such a loyal friend to me and a supporter - that is a true gift I have in my life.
