I once swam like a fish
in the sunny
blue sea.
I just took it for granted
about being
so free.
I became an Olympic calibre
swimmer
in my youthful prime.
So precious in retrospect
as I think
about that time.
My eyes now travel
where my legs
can't go
by courting the despair
of what
I used to know.
Please take my hand
and push me
to the shore
and let my feet
touch the water
like before.
I am blessed
to have
your loving care
as we follow the path
of this boardwalk
from my wheelchair.
Like a fish out of water
I feel the need
to breathe.
Please take me down
to the water
before we leave.
My eyes now travel
where my legs
can't go
by courting the despair
of what
I used to know.
